2023 has, if nothing, been a crash course in AI. Mostly from a business perspective, to be honest, but part of my “education” has been getting in the habit of using AI tools to help with dumb, daily tasks. Oftentimes, this is as simple as going to ChatGPT or Perplexity instead of Google to answer a question. Here are some fave ways I’ve used AI to make my life more beautiful/wonderful/enjoyable/etc.
Here are some of my favorite use cases so far:
Fashion Brand Discovery: I’ll ask Perplexity (my fave) to tell me the names of fashion brands from the 70s that use natural materials in their designs to improve my success rate on sites like Poshmark. This has been my best secondhand-shopping year EVER, and it’s partly thanks to AI.
Perfume Layering Recommendations: I am obsessed with being the best-smelling version of myself, and that obsession has been wonderfully supported by AI this year. Layering perfumes and scented products is some expert mode shit that can go very awry, but I’ll ask ChatGPT what layers well with the *exquisite* Viva La Juicy Gold Couture perfume I’m wearing that day, and it hasn’t let me down yet.
Finding Dupes (DOOPS): Obviously, dupes are having a huge cultural moment right now (how’s that for a recession indicator, ladies amirite.) There are more companies than ever focused on based on a value proposition of offering lower-cost products with similar results. There were already several websites dedicated to finding the best dupes possible in makeup and skincare, but a tool like Perplexity quickly and easily summarizes the top findings from across the internet in a matter of seconds.
Making a Custom Travel Itinerary: I’ve long been a power-user of Google Maps, saving my top recommendations to my profile with meticulous curation and an uncharacteristic level of organization. This was already AI-supported, since my Google Maps has gotten so good at knowing my tastes that it will make phenomenal suggestions of where I should go/shop/eat. That’s nothing, though, compared to sites like RoamAround, which will customize a full day for you, taking into account how much time you have, how much you want to spend, the weather, who you’re traveling with, and any other factors you want to bring into the fold. A client of mine used a tool like this for a 3-week trip to Japan with his family, and said it did a better job planning out their schedule and activities than he ever could.
Note: all of the AI tools mentioned above are FREE to use!
